Canada’s surge in temporary residents might be, well, temporary.  Driving the news: Temporary residents grew to 6.8% of Canada’s population last quarter, but new data suggests the immigration tide could be cresting. The country added 131,810 temporary residents, which is significantly lower than the record 312,758 seen last year.

A record 128,000 millionaires are expected to move to a different country this year, with Canada pegged to be a top destination for upper-crust emigrés.  

A range of benefits and tax credits are available to newcomers to Canada, including both permanent (including people with “approval-in-principle” from IRCC to stay in Canada) and temporary residents (including student, worker, or temporary resident permit holders).

As of August 28, temporary residents in Canada on a visitor visa are no longer permitted to apply for a job-supported work permit from within Canada.

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued invitations to apply (ITAs) in the second Express Entry draw of the week.
