Super Visa

Unlike regular visitor visas, which typically allow for a stay of up to six months, the Super Visa permits eligible parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for up to five consecutive years without needing to renew their status. This visa is valid for up to 10 years, enabling multiple entries during this period.

Key Features of the Super Visa

  • Longer Stay Period: Super Visa holders can stay in Canada for up to five years at a time without renewing their visa status, making it an attractive option for families who wish to spend extended periods together.
  • Multiple Entry: It is a multiple-entry visa, meaning holders can enter and exit Canada as often as they wish during the validity of the visa.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Parent or Grandparent Relationship: Applicants must be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada. Other relatives, such as siblings or aunts, are not eligible.
  • Invitation from Child or Grandchild: The child or grandchild inviting the applicant must provide a letter of invitation, which includes details about their household, an undertaking of financial support during the stay, and proof of their Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Proof of Financial Support: The child or grandchild must meet the minimum necessary income requirements (Low-Income Cut-Off - LICO) to demonstrate they can financially support their visiting parent or grandparent. Evidence of income can include Notice of Assessment (NOA), T4/T1, employment letter, pay stubs, or bank statements.
  • Medical Insurance: Applicants must have valid medical insurance coverage from a Canadian insurance company that is valid for at least one year from the date of entry. Provides a minimum coverage of $100,000. Covers health care, hospitalization, and repatriation.
  • Medical Examination: Applicants must undergo an immigration medical examination to prove they meet the health requirements for entry into Canada.
  • Admissibility: Applicants must be admissible to Canada, meaning they must not have a criminal record or pose a security risk.
