Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is one of the three main immigration pathways managed under Canada’s Express Entry system. It is specifically designed for skilled workers who have gained work experience in Canada and wish to apply for permanent residence. The CEC is a popular choice for international graduates and temporary foreign workers who have already integrated into Canadian society and have Canadian work experience, making it easier for them to transition to permanent residence.

Eligibility Criteria

Work Experience in Canada

  • Minimum Requirement: Applicants must have at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada within the last three years before applying.
  • Type of Work: The work experience must be full-time (at least 30 hours per week) or an equivalent amount of part-time experience. It must fall under National Occupational Classification (NOC) Skill Level 0, A, or B (managerial, professional, or skilled trades and technical occupations).
  • Authorized Work: The experience must be gained while the applicant was authorized to work in Canada (e.g., with a valid work permit).

Language Proficiency

  • NOC 0 or A occupations: A minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in all four abilities (speaking, listening, reading, and writing).
  • NOC B occupations: A minimum of CLB 5 in all four abilities.
  • Approved Tests: The most common language tests accepted are the IELTS for English and the TEF for French.

Education

  • There is no specific education requirement for the CEC. However, applicants can earn additional points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) if they have completed secondary or post-secondary education in Canada or abroad.

Intent to Live Outside Quebec

  • Applicants must intend to live outside the province of Quebec, as Quebec has its own immigration programs.

Admissibility

  • Applicants must not be inadmissible to Canada on grounds such as criminal history or health issues.
